I had seen the trailers for the movie and thought they looked good. I had felt the same about Hurt Locker and thought Ms Bigelow was a good director on an upward trajectory. I had seen how ZDT had divided many people on the issue of torture: did it glorify it?
I went to the movie this past weekend and decided that on its technical merits it is a strong movie--well done, a serious effort, well-drawn characters, fine cinematography. It was well-crafted and interesting.
I concluded it does not glorify torture. What it does is normalize it. And that, it seems to me, is a whole lot worse.
