This is a thread where people can post information about events happening in their cities.
Here is a montage of what's been posted elsewhere.
Permitted Areas in DC where you do not risk arrest are listed at
http://www.5yearstoomany.org/article.php?id=60There is a lot of information on training if you do want to participate in civil disobedience actions.
Also a list of events in your locality.
United for Peace and Justice also has a list of affordable housing options in DC, some of which are within walking distance of the Omni Shoreham for people who attend the Take Back America conference. Look on the right hand side of the link above for this and other information, like housing boards if you are willing to spend the night on a couch or a church floor.
Tons of other information about related events and affinity groups.
If you are planning to come from out of town, please try to sign up to visit your representatives in Congress. And let your local media where you are going and why.
Given that demonstrations are not all that unusual in DC, some of the best coverage is from hometown news outlets. I know some people who actually got a TV news crew to accompany them on a bus to a demonstration in Washington.
too. Absolutely right! And given how little national media attention is focused on the large demonstrations in DC, you might make more of an impact by staying home.
And, of course, demonstrating or holding a vigil in your area. Make sure that you contact your local media in advance, and if possible, sign a petition that some of you can deliver to the home office of your Representatives. All the Congressional Reps are up for re-election this fall, and some of your Senators may be, too.
A number of local governments have gone on record to oppose the war. This is a chance for them to reaffirm their commitment or join in the effort to end the war.
You can find statistics on
http://www.nationalpriorities.org/costofwar_hometo find out and tell your neighbors, your local and state government officials and your representatives just how much the war is costing your community.

Yes fellow Illinois Edwardians, there is a peace march here in Chicago on the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. This group seems to be getting all the permits necessary and that this will be a peaceful march. This group also has anti-war meetings every Thursday. The name of the group is Answer Chicago. Here is the link:
