News: Contact your representative and tell them we need to opt out of buying foreign oil.   To send a message to them.  We need to use the petroleum reserve like Clinton did and the prices will drop.  We're the biggest market in the world - if we stop buying that will send a message.  So, help make that happen - unless you all love paying others to get rich beyond reason..including Iraq who is making a 70 billion profit from us and our men and women are hurt and dying.  So stand up folks and take action on this one.

Cry  Oh, my, I am such a mush.  Cry

What breaks my heart is for years and years our government has not cared enough to investigate and enforce laws
to protect our children.

Joe Scarborough has a child with a mild form of Autism.  He had Robert Kennedy, Jr on last fall with astonishing
commentary regarding mercury levels in vaccines.  Yet, I've heard near nothing on the topic since.

Trust me there is alot going on in the area of trying to link vaccines to autism.  Many studies are currently being done.  Its hard to compile the data, and they want to look at many many years of it before they come out with a definitive answer.  There are so many forms of autism, which leads me to think there are many different causes as well.  For up to date info on autism, go to autismspeaks.org.

Before Don Imus was fired, I used to watch him and this was his big deal.  He used to talk about this on a daily basis.  He brought a lot to this discussion and the parents of autistic children really appreciated the audience he provided.

Both these guys are kind of "shock jocks".  Michael Savage has always been over the top that's why he was on TV for such a short time.  I don't remember what stupid thing he said before but MSNBC or CNN had to let him go, so for him to say another stupid thing doesn't surprise me.  However, I think his gripe has to do with the number of kids on disability.  Autism does cover a lot of different behaviors.  He's talking from the "right" and he's trying to say that back in the day kids got disability for asthma and now they're getting it for Autism.  He thinks people are abusing the system.  I understand his thinking, even if it is quite limited, and I know he drives everyone crazy with his mouth but I also feel they can boycott him and turn him off, if they so choose.  Now as a teacher I see a lot of different behaviors go under the title of Autism.  Some students have much more severe cases than others.  Imus always focused on the issue of mercury in the vaccinations as that's what a lot of the parents believe is the cause.  I think more research must go into all vaccinations.  I came across a video about the beginning of Aids.  The video implied that chimpanzee cells were used to create the culture for the Polio vaccinations used in some parts of Africa during the late fifties and early sixties.  The scientists didn't think that this would make a difference but there are some that now believe that Aids came from those vaccinations.  As consumers we haven't given much thought to these vaccinations as we see them as having such disease curing benefits that far out weight the negatives.  Maybe we should be researching these risks that we are taking.  I also know that kids today are getting far more vaccinations than we ever did.  Now back to Michael Savage.  He's an idiot but if nothing else, he finally has people talking about Autism.  Even if his light is a dirty light, many people are now discussing Autism.  I would hate for this discussion to be more about the idiot than about the disease.

The video here is pretty interesting.  I think our focus should be on the kids!  I won't be wasting any energy on Michael.  I wouldn't listen to his program to start with.  He's like Rush Limbaugh, lots of crap comes out of his mouth.  People can choose to tune him out but some people seem to enjoy listening to these guys.  These are probably the same people that follow the fire engines to a car crash!

Yes, autism is a spectrum.  Which means that there are many different levels of functioning of those in the spectrum.  You can have children who can't speak or interact, to children who you can't keep from speaking at inopportune times as they cannot control their impulses.   Diagnosing autism is not a simple thing, you don't go into your pediatricians office and he says, yep autism here is a script, as opposed to how they were doing it with ADD where peditricians were just willy nilly medicating kids. Finding specialists in the autism field is difficult as well.  I travel over an hour to see my son's specialist.   My son is not nasty and rebellious, he is clueless, there is a huge difference and if you spend any time with them, it is clearly apparent.

And the whole disability thing, I checked into it when my kids were babies, you can't make squat and get it for your kids, and if you are making that little money you would be eligible under other programs anyways, so its not a valid position.

I personally don't think any thing he said is valid.  Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough on this.  There are a lot of people saying crazy things.  I don't agree with them but I understand where they're coming from.  In this market the recourse is to boycott him, not to buy the advertised products and then to let the station know that you are not choosing to listen to him.  He can say what he wants, but he may have to suffer those type of consequences.  I don't believe we can be a totally edited society as I don't want someone taking away my own free speech.  A public figure like this can be controlled through the market if people choose to do it.

i was going to let it go, cuz savage is a racist idiot, but apparently, savage defended his statement--he really just thought that some of these kids needed more discipline.  you know, that they weren't behaving properly because they needed to be whipped by their parents more often...yeah.  and a guy pulls out a gun and shoots up a church, because he thought they were liberals?  20 bucks says he listened to a whole lot of rush, o'really, and savage.  evil breeds evil in the weak...

That's why you have to turn them off.  I know what he said but I don't listen to him.  I don't know if he's on Sirius.  I listen to Left 146 some but not right wing stuff.  I had my full of him for his short sprint on TV.  That's when I figured he wasn't worth watching.  I believe that's the kind of stuff you can boycott.  The more you talk about him and the less about the Autism, he wins as he will get more people to turn him on to hear what crazy thing he has to say.  That's why Rush gets such an audience.  People want to hear him go off on someone or something.  Michael will benefit from this the more people talk about him and not Autism.
