I am posting here because there has been a shift in emphasis over WHERE we War. Through most of the 2008 campaign, getting out of Iraq was hope shared by some, anathema endured by others. Now that we do seem to be slowly changing the military posture to focus on Afghanistan, the price we have paid and will grow to pay becomes more and more prominent in the minds of policy makers.
I am not talking about the price in life and limb. That price, it seems, is to be glorified or made noble only for Memorial Day purposes. No, I am talking about the only price that matters to the Fiscal Beancounters (I mean "conservatives") who are looking for any reason to depart from taking care of America's immediate needs and seeking out yet another distant land that they claim threatens us. Why would they do such a thing? Could it be they really are part of the Military Industrial Complex.
What will they do when China is that menacing land?
